Re: my little girl just been diagnosed  (reply)
Thanks for the update on your little stinker Cassie! Here in the US we have what is known as a soft muzzle. See if you can pick up one to fit her and the next time she goes to the vet's, you take her muzzle with you. She needs blood tests whether she ...

I'm so glad to hear that Macy is doing better! What an adorable little dog!! I always used the 30 gauge needles for my Aini, because that was what I could get at my Costco. Aini never flinched, either. My suggestion for dog treats is to try, whenever ...

Well, Cassie went to the vets at 9.30 am yesterday to spend the day there and have blood tests every two hours for them to monitor her glucose level and assess the correct dose of insulin. However, the vet rang up at 1pm to say that Cassie had not let ...

Hi Macy's Mom. A couple of questions for you this morning. Did you have to buy the NPH insulin from your vet? You mentioned that he gave you the 30 gauge needles also. Just wondered what you were charged thats all. Normally we buy our own insulin. ...

The more fiber in the food, the long is takes to digest & that usually works better with the action of the insulin. Picture a normal insulin curve, then picture a digestion curve, with the digestion curve peaking sooner than the insulin curve. You want to ...

Re: Kidney Failure?? - UPDATE - Vet Visit & Blood Work - 1st HYPO today  (reply)
Yes, I'm glad we caught it in time. It was just one of those things, I called the vet & said something's wrong but I don't know what it is. He's drinking too much, increased insulin isn't stopping that, and he's not eating well (of course, filling up on ...

Welcome to the board! I'm so glad you've decided to give it a chance. When my dog was diagnosed, I was relieved! One simple blood test and I had the diagnosis. It's the "mystery" diseases that are so unsettling. But I knew that insulin was available and ...

Way to go, Schultz! It's amazing how quickly they can feel better, isn't it? Well done, Mum! You caught this in time. Course, we still don't know what "this" is, do we??! It must be such a relief to see him eating well again. Poor Frodo! Can he share ...

PS..you won't do harm being an hour late. In fact Nick's BS is usually still normal at meal time. All it can do is her BS might rise a little but the main thing is the insulin after her meal as the meal will cause it to start going up. If it goes up for a ...

I use the Alpo snaps and break them in two. I have had no problem. I also use green beans, a cheerio. I sometimes get puppy milkbones and just give a little piece as a snack or treat. I have never had a problem with it messing with the BS. Is she peeing ...

My vet gave me 30 gauge needles. Macy doesn't seem to mind. Should I ask her to switch? I asked the vet about warming up the insulin and she said at this low dose it doesn't matter. 1 1/2 units twice a day. Jody, can I buy any snacks as long as there is ...

Schultz LOVES the new food. He's licking his bowl clean! My husband thought Schultz was still hungry, so I've increased his food from 1/2 can to 3/4 can (vet said he could have 1/2-3/4 can/meal). Frodo is jealous!!! Schultz has slept through the last 2 ...
