From another Husky mom (even though I no longer have my diabetic boy) welcome. This board is awesome. It was a life line for me when I was dealing with
Reiko's diabetes and I still come here often because this board family is still a valuable life line.

It seemed like Louie developed symptoms of diabetes overnight while we were away on a family vacation last year, suddenly having "accidents" in
the house--not a pretty thing with a big dog who's been drinking a lot of water! I'm surprised our petsitter still hung in with us after that.
Thinking back several months though, he hadn't been as peppy and probably wasn't feeling well. It's amazing how much healthier and happier he
seems now, even though his vision is not good.

I'm not sure of the USA equivalent so won't quote Storm's dosage here Other supplements: We give Storm 1 1/2 tablets per day of "Vetzyme - High Strength -Flexible Joint" and from time to time doze him on Rimadyl for up to a week at a time. He has arthritis - this was prevalent before his diabetes so we were kinda looking for him to have problems with his joints. Diagnosed with diabetes - Feb 2004. Started to go blind last year. We suspect Storm is suffering from senile dementia too but are prepared to admit that he has been totally spoiled and may be fooling us

City, State: Mt. Juliet, TN Email address: jennholley@gmail.com Diabetic Pet: Micah Breed: Pug Age: 6 years old Weight: 23 pounds (has lost 7 pounds in past 4 weeks while diabetes was in onset) Eats: I have no idea yet, she is still in hospital Insulin: Don't know yet, still in hospital Treats: Other supplements: Medications: Diagnosed 6/12/08 I am obviously VERY new at this. I am trying to get as much information as possible before I bring her home. She is still at Vet on IV fluids trying to get Ketones down. We were treating her for bladder stones and so the symptoms she was showing (drinking alot, peeing a lot, not eating much) were all attributed to the stones. I took her in to have the surgery and while doing the preliminary blood work they found that she was diabetic, glucose levels were dangerously high, they said hours away from diabetic coma, ketones very high in urine. They have had her on IV fluids and fast acting Insulin to try and get everything in check. Can't take her home obviously until then. SO I do not know what amounts of insulin I will be giving when she comes home, just that I will. I have no idea about diet, except they mentioned Hills w/d. I am a bit overwhelmed thinking about everything and I haven't even met with the vet yet to discuss at home day to day care. Just trying to get her well enough to come home. |
