Sissy is a 15 pound lhasa apso. She has lots of problems, and right now we are having food issues. I am still giving her a little Merrick kibble and about
1/2 can of Merrick. She loved the Merrick, but now she is only eating about half of that. She will eat a little more if I mix in some ham salad (desperation
move). Due to her food issues, she now only gets 5 units of Vetsulin 2X a day. She was getting 7 - then dropped to 6 - now down to 5. I'm not going to
try to do anything about her food right now - we have some other issues to deal with first.
Sissy is a 15 1/2 year old Lhasa Apso. She was diagnosed on 9-21-2007. She gets 7 units of Vetsulin 2X a day. She eats Merrick Wilderness Blend kibble and
Merrick canned. Her treats are chicken chips. She is also blind, deaf, senile, and has KCS."In moments of joy, all of us wished we possessed a tail we
could wag" W.H. Auden

diabetic treats | ||

I have a terrier on insulin. We have been giving her WD canned food. The problem we were having is there were no treats. There are some diabetic treats out
there, however I would not give them to her. Here is the problem, First of all you can't understand the food nutritional label. What does 36%ash mean and
what does 29%fat mean. I found a diabetic treat called Just Because For Dogs. These treats are fat free, sorbitol free, and very low in the carb dept. It even
has a label on it that I can understand. These treats are even made with oats, which stabelizes the blood sugar levels. I give them to all of my dogs now.
There made in the USA also. It's justbecausefordogs.com.

Drexel is a 3yr old Miniature Pinscher weighing 6.9kg (Before getting sick & losing weight, he is a bit less heavy now)
He was perscribed by his vet Royal Canine Medi-Cal Weight Control Mature Dry Kibble and also Royal Canine Medi-Cal Weight Control Wet Canned Food. *He has an intolerance to Fat, (His liver can't take it) This Kibble is mid-range fat content, he needs the bit extra for his insulin to work correctly. * He also gets Caninsulin 2X a day. Currently we are trying 1.5 units 2X, but we are still trying to find what works best for him. Drexel also gets a small treat after his insulin shot, They are Charlee Bear Dog Treats w/Liver (3 calories) And on the odd occasion he gets a Hard boiled egg after his dinner. *~DREXEL~* |

I am new here and just saw this poll about food and insulin and wanted to share Gussy's diet with all of you.
Gussy is currently eating Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul and gets 2 cups AM and PM. He is on 15 units BID of Novolin N. He has been diabetic for 22 months now and this is the best food we have found for him as far as BG levels go. Melissa and Gussy |

We have Roscoe on Blue Buffalo Wilderness mixed with another natural dog food (I can't remember the name?) He gets 1 1/2 cups of food twice a day (every 12
hrs) and he is on 9 units of NPH for insulin 2X day. We were giving him the W/D dog food and didn't feel it was working for Roscoe and he was losing
weight? I also put a raw egg on his food when I can remember? I was also told about canned pumpkin? We took Roscoe off W/D and bought a more nutritious food
and thought we would try it? He is only like 34.5 lbs, and the vet would like to see him gain some weight, so I will try to up his food and his insulin a
little? Any ideas?
Thanks, Denise/Roscoe Have yourself a Merry little Christmas!
